Park(ing) Day Returns in 2011!
Park(ing) Day NYC is an opportunity for community advocates, environmentalists, artists and NYC residents to re-create our urban landscape and reinvent public street space. Park(ing) Spot hosts reclaim street space for a day and transform it into people-friendly public spaces. Park(ing) Spots can be anything from play spaces to community meeting places, urban gardens to small sculpture parks, performance stages to relaxing respites.
Transportation Alternatives (T.A.) will manage the Park(ing) Day NYC permitting process. That’s right, even though anyone can park a car in a legal parking spot, a permit is needed to use that space for non-vehicle activities. In order to reclaim a parking spot Friday September 16th you must apply to T.A. for a permit (details below) by Friday August 26th, 2011. We will then apply for an official Street Activity Permit from the Mayor’s office and share this with you before the 16th.
To apply for a Park(ing) Day NYC permit, e-mail the following information to info@parkingdaynyc.org by Friday August 26th (applications submitted after this date cannot be processed):
